Studios have set a pair of toons for two summers from now with Fox staking out May 17, 2013 for "Leafmen" and Paramount scheduling DreamWorks Animation's "Turbo" for July 19, 2013. "Leafmen," is in production with Chris Wedge -- co-founder and creative VP of Blue Sky Studios -- directing the story about a colony of bugs, based on the William Joyce book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs." It will open against Sony's Roland Emmerich actioner "Singularity." "Turbo," with Ryan Reynolds voicing the lead role, is directed by David Soren from a script he co-wrote with Darren Lemke ("Shrek Forever After"). Story follows an ordinary garden snail who dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world -- and when a freak accident gives him extraordinary speed, Turbo sets out to try to make his dream come true. Lisa Stewart ("Monsters vs. Aliens") is producing "Turbo," which is slated to open against Universal's Tom Cruise actioner "Oblivion." Fox and Par made the announcements Friday. Two other animated projects have already been set for the 2013 summer -- Disney's "Monsters University" on June 21 and Uni's "Despicable Me 2" on July 3. *Universal have bailed on the ambitious multi-media adaptation of
Stephen King’s seven-book series _The Dark Tower_.*

Previously, director Ron Howard had painstakingly set out a game plan
with the studio that involved turning the books into three movies and
two seasons of a TV show.

Just last month, Universal stalled the project, and requested that
Howard, his producer Brian Grazer and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman find
a way to tighten the project’s budget.

Now the studio have ditched the project entirely, balking at the costs
involved in such a grand undertaking.

But could Warner Bros come to the rescue? With Universal passing on
the adaptation, Howard can now shop his project around the rest of
Hollywood.

And seeing as the WB is desperate to find a megabuck replacement for
its recently completed _Harry Potter_ franchise, _Dark Tower_ could be
just the ticket.

In the meantime, Howard will helm Formula 1 biopic _Rush_, which will
star _Thor_’s Chris Hemsworth.

*It's fair to say that _G.I. Joe_ didn't enjoy a great deal of
critical love.*

By rights, nobody should be getting too excited about the prospect of
a sequel, but the cast that director Jon Chu is putting together is
pretty hard to ignore.

Ray Stevenson, most recently seen as Volstagg in _Thor_, has joined
the cast as villain Firefly.

Stevenson has starred in _Punisher: War Zone_ and _The Other Guys_,
but he's still best known for his role as rowdy soldier Titus Pullo in
TV show Rome.

He joins Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson in the sequel, as well as
the recently cast Adrianne Palicki. Bruce Willis' name has also been
bandied about, but his involvement remains a rumour.

The movie is further distanced from its predecessor by the fact Tatum
seems to be the only cast member returning (although Lee Byung-hun and
Ray Park have also been mooted to be coming back).

Here's hoping that _G.I. Joe 2_ can deliver some more impressive
action, a leaner plot and, in the form of Stevenson, a more
threatening villain than the limp first instalment managed.

_G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes_ is expected to arrive in summer 2012.

I was looking at my movie collection recently and saw that although i
had a ton of intense action movies and dramas, there were very little
in the way of fun, lighthearted (although intelligent) films out
there.
I'm not much into movies like the Hangover or romantic comedies, but i
do like independent films.
